NEC Intros New Consumer HDTV Plasma Display Line

New 42", 50" and 61" High-Definition Models Give Consumers the First Residential Plasma Displays to Feature NEC's Image Quality, Service and Support

NEC Solutions (America), Inc. today made its plasma display quality and reliability available for residential entertainment with the introduction of its new line of 42", 50" and 61" HDTV plasma displays. With screen sizes of up to 61", wall-mountable silver-bezel designs beginning at only 3.5" deep, and high image quality, the new flat-screen displays engage and impress in home theater, gaming and other residential applications.

"According to the Home Theater Research Group, the residential plasma display market is projected to grow 70% annually over the next three years," said Ron Gillies, senior vice president for NEC Solutions America, Visual Systems Division. "NEC is poised to meet this demand with the industry's first residential plasma displays enhanced by NEC's breathtaking image quality and industry-leading service and support."

The PlasmaSync 42XM2/S, 50XM3/S, 61XM2/S and 61XM2+/S, which are now shipping, use several exclusive technologies to attain stunning image quality for the ultimate home theater experience. Capsulated Color Filter technology offers realistic color reproduction and AccuCrimson technology creates the purest reds possible in a plasma display. Advanced AccuBlend scaling technology provides precise display of 4:3 and 16:9 content from video, HD and PC sources. HDCP compatibility ensures operation with source devices featuring a DVI output using high bandwidth digital content protection. And 3/2 pulldown enhances the appearance of content originally produced in film.

With HDTV-ready resolution and a progressive scan driving method, the new models display sharp, crisp images that are stable and flicker-free. New color tune technology allows for individual color adjustments without altering the white balance, and gamma technology gives control over even the darkest of images with over 4,000 adjustable shades of gray.

Users seeking a larger-than-life 61" display can choose between two models, the 61XM2/S and the 61XM2+/S. The 61XM2+/S incorporates NEC's new enhanced split screen feature, which offers a wide selection of choices in viewing two sources simultaneously. Users can display material from two sources at once side by side or in a picture in picture format, freeze the image on the active source, or zoom in on a portion of the selected image for a closer view while the second source maintains its original image. Seamless switching allows for smooth, instant switching between two sources.

The units come equipped with 9W x 9W stereo audio (8W x 8W for the 42XM2/S) and the option of external speakers that attach to the sides of the display for a seamlessly integrated audio solution. With low power consumption and the most phosphor protection modes of any plasma line, the new displays give users low operating costs and superior durability. The 42XM2/S, 50XM3/S, 61XM2/S and 61XM2+/S also run at a virtually silent 22dB for quiet operation, allowing the entertainment to take center stage.
